ZŌN is a focus and screen-time app made by intozon.app. It helps you block distracting apps, protect your focus and sleep, and grow better digital habits. This policy explains what data ZŌN handles, what stays on your device, and what your choices are.
The short version
- On iOS, which apps you block is chosen through Apple's private picker. ZŌN only ever sees a count, never the list, and it never leaves your device.
- We store your account profile (including your birth date, for the age check) and your focus and sleep stats, so they follow your account across devices.
- A community leaderboard shows your chosen nickname and focus stats to other signed-in users, never your email or real identity.
- No ads. No sale of personal data. No cross-app tracking or advertising SDKs.
- You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
Accounts
ZŌN uses Firebase Authentication (a Google service) to create and sign in to your account. You can sign in with email and password, Apple, Google, or your phone number. Firebase Authentication processes the credentials needed to identify you, such as your email address or phone number, to operate your account. Your email address (and phone number, if you sign in by phone) is also saved with your private profile in our database.
Age requirement
ZŌN is not for children under 13. When you first set up the app we ask for your date of birth to check this. If you're 13 or older, your birth date is stored with your private profile. The birth date you enter is also kept in your device's secure storage, where it can persist even after you uninstall the app, so the check can't be bypassed by reinstalling. We don't knowingly create accounts for children under 13; if you believe a child is using ZŌN with an account, write to support@intozon.app and we'll delete it.
Data we store
Your profile and progress are stored in Cloud Firestore (a Google service) and include:
- Your account email address (and your phone number, if you sign in by phone)
- Your date of birth (for the age check) and, if you choose to share it, your gender
- The display name you pick, your goals, and your onboarding answers (like your own estimate of your daily screen time, how you found ZŌN, and the plan you chose)
- Your focus and sleep session stats, streaks, and progress
- Your app-blocking schedules and settings, so they survive reinstalls
- Your profile photo, if you set one
- Your subscription status (active or not; never payment details)
We store this so your progress follows your account across reinstalls and devices. No other user can see this data, with one exception: the leaderboard below. (We access it on our systems only to operate ZŌN and handle support.)
The leaderboard
ZŌN has a community leaderboard. Other signed-in users can see your chosen display name and your focus stats (your lifetime focus total and roughly the last 45 days of daily focus minutes). Your display name is a nickname you pick: it doesn't have to be (and shouldn't be) your real name, and we never show your email, birth date, or any other profile data to anyone. You can report an inappropriate name from the leaderboard (reports include your account ID, the reported account, the name as it appeared, and the reason you chose, and are kept for moderation), and you can hide any user from your own view.
Screen time and app blocking
App blocking and screen-time enforcement run on your device. On iOS, the apps you block are selected through Apple's private Family Controls picker, and Apple keeps this private by design: ZŌN cannot read your Screen Time totals and only ever knows how many apps you selected, never which ones. That list never leaves your iPhone. On Android, ZŌN manages the block list itself, and the apps you pick (their names) are saved to your account so your block list can sync across reinstalls. On both platforms, your blocking schedules (times and days) are saved to your account, as described above.
Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand how ZŌN is used: things like which screens are visited, whether onboarding is completed, and when focus sessions start. These events are tied to your account ID, not your name, and never contain your email, your display name, or anything you type. We don't use advertising identifiers, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hits an internal error, a technical report is sent through Firebase Crashlytics so we can find and fix the problem. Like analytics, these reports are tied to your account ID; they describe the state of the app, not your personal content.
What we don't do
- We show no ads.
- We never sell your personal data.
- We use no advertising SDKs and don't track you across other apps or websites.
AI and your data
ZŌN has no AI feature. The app uses no artificial intelligence, no machine learning, and no generative models, and it carries no on-device models. Nothing you type, nothing you block, nothing you focus on, and nothing you listen to is sent to an AI model or to any AI provider. No AI provider appears in our list of service providers (see Service providers below).
The lines you see on a blocked app, during a session, and at bedtime are a fixed set of sentences, written by hand and shipped inside the app. Which one appears is decided by the clock or picked at random from that fixed set. They are not generated for you, and nothing about you is analyzed to choose them.
No model profiles you. Your level, streak, rank, and habitat growth are counted minutes measured against fixed thresholds, plus ordinary arithmetic: sorting by focus minutes, counting consecutive days, and dividing your minutes by the fixed constants behind the comparisons we show you. We do not build a predictive profile of you, and nothing scores or rates you as a person.
A few things in ZŌN do happen automatically, and we would rather name them than claim there are none. The age check is a plain date calculation on the birth date you enter, and it can refuse an account (see Age requirement); if you believe the result is wrong, write to support@intozon.app and a person will review it. The display name filter is a fixed list of words that can refuse a nickname you pick and ask you for another one. Your subscription status is set automatically from your App Store purchase. All three are hand-written rules, not learned models, and none of them profiles you. Reports about another user's display name are reviewed by a person.
We do not use your data to train any model, ours or anyone else's, and we do not sell or license your data to anyone who does.
One thing worth saying plainly: most of ZŌN's visual world is AI-generated. The habitat art, the island renders, and the landscape scenery in the app and on this website, the still images and the moving backgrounds alike, were made by us with AI image and video tools. They are imagined places, not photographs of anywhere real, and no user data was involved in creating them. The exceptions are the wildlife clips of individual species, which are licensed footage of real animals, and the soundscapes, which are composed music. Both are credited by name and license on our science page.
If any of this changes, we'll update this page and tell you in the app before the feature ships.
Subscriptions
Paid subscriptions are billed through the App Store. Apple handles the payment. ZŌN never sees or stores your payment details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions: it receives your account ID, your App Store purchase status, and basic device information (and, like any service we call, your IP address), but never your name, email, or card details. We store your subscription status with your account so your access works across your devices.
Service providers
These are the services that process data to run ZŌN: Google Firebase (sign-in, database, analytics, and crash reports, all on Google Cloud servers in the United States), Apple (sign-in, payments, and device verification), RevenueCat (subscription management), Cloudflare (delivers our audio content; like any download service, it sees your IP address), Vercel (hosts and serves our website; like any web host, it sees the IP address of every visitor), and Kit (the email list on our website, below).
Our website and the email list
Our website (intozon.app) is separate from the app and collects almost nothing. The email form is powered by Kit (ConvertKit), which stores your email address so we can tell you when ZŌN launches on Android; every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also just reply to be removed. The site itself sets one functional cookie (zon-lang) to remember your language for a year, and stores your day/night theme choice in your browser. Kit's form script may set Kit's own cookies (for example, to remember that you subscribed); see Kit's privacy policy. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which, like any content delivery service, sees your IP address. Apart from Kit's script, we run no analytics or advertising trackers on the website.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time. Deletion removes your sign-in account and your data: profile, stats, schedules, photo, leaderboard entry, and subscription record.
A few things are kept after deletion:
- When you delete your account we keep a short exit record (your account ID, the reason you picked, anything you typed as feedback, and your total focus minutes and sessions) to improve ZŌN. It is deleted automatically after 180 days.
- We keep a marker of the deleted account ID, so later billing events can't silently recreate your account.
- Reports made through the leaderboard's report feature are kept for moderation integrity.
- Anti-abuse rate-limit records (derived from a one-way hash of an email address, never the address itself) are kept, and deleted automatically after 48 hours.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions), ideally before deleting. Apple and RevenueCat also retain purchase records under their own policies, and crash and analytics data already sent expires on those services' standard retention schedules. The age-check record in your device's secure storage stays on the device (see Age requirement), and if you leave setup partway through, the encrypted snapshot of your setup answers saved there so you can resume can also persist after uninstalling (it's cleared when your account is created or you sign out). Everything else ZŌN keeps on your device is removed when you uninstall the app.
Your rights
You can see and correct most of your data directly in the app (Account Settings), and delete your account entirely as described above. For anything else, such as a copy of your data (portability), a correction you can't make in the app, an objection or restriction to how we use your data, or removing a child's account, email support@intozon.app and we'll respond within 30 days. We'll never treat you differently for exercising any of these rights, and if you're in a region with a data-protection authority (like the EU or Brazil), you can also complain to it.
We process your data to provide ZŌN to you (our contract with you), and, for analytics and crash reports, based on our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. Wherever you use ZŌN from, your data is stored on Google Cloud servers in the United States, protected by our providers' standard contractual safeguards (such as the EU-approved contractual clauses), and kept while your account exists.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date. Meaningful changes will be communicated in the app.
